We claim the grant, you pay less

If you own your home in England or Wales and you're replacing a gas, oil, LPG or electric heating system, you can usually get £7,500 towards an air source heat pump. Because we're MCS certified, we apply for it and take it off your quote. There's nothing for you to fill in.

On oil or LPG? Eligible off-gas homes can get £9,000 for installs between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027.

How the grant works

How a NorthStar install works

Most problems people hear about with heat pumps come from guessing the size. We don't guess.

  1. Home survey

We visit, measure every room and look at your insulation, windows, radiators and hot water setup.

  2. Heat loss and design

We work out how much heat each room needs, then size the heat pump, radiators and cylinder to match.

  3. Fixed written quote

You get a clear price with the grant already taken off, and a straight answer on what will change in your home.

  4. Installation

Usually two to five days. We keep you updated each day and leave the place tidy.

  5. Handover and MCS certificate

We set up the controls, show you how to run it cheaply, and register the install with MCS.

What Sheffield customers say

5-star reviews from our Google Business Profile.

“We was a bit unsure about getting a heat pump at first cos heard mixed things but NorthStar actually explained it all decent and didnt just try sell us one straight away. They checked house properly first and went through what would work best for us. Install took a bit of organising but lads kept us updated and got on with it. Been using it a few weeks now and house stays warm no problem and its quieter than I expected aswell.”
Hollie Grogan Google review
“Had no idea what size heat pump we needed or whether the house would even suit one, so was half expecting a load of confusing sales talk. Didn’t get any of that. Everything was explained simply, we knew what we were paying for and the install went smoother than expected. House is heating up nicely and it’s been easy enough to get used to. Very happy we went ahead with it.”

Will a heat pump suit my home?

Probably, but we'd rather check than promise. Sheffield has everything from Victorian terraces in Walkley to stone farmhouses out towards the Peaks, and each needs a different design.

Heat pumps run at lower water temperatures than a boiler, so they work best when the heat they put in roughly matches the heat the house loses. That's why we do a full heat loss calculation before quoting. Sometimes that means a couple of bigger radiators or extra loft insulation. If the numbers don't work for your home, we'll tell you.

Good signs your home is ready

  • You own the property and currently heat it with gas, oil, LPG or electric
  • There's outside space for the unit, at the side, back or front
  • The loft has some insulation, and cavity walls are filled where you have them
  • You have room for a hot water cylinder, or already have one
  • Double glazing in most rooms
  • You're happy for the heating to run low and steady rather than in short blasts

Heat pump questions

How much does an air source heat pump cost in Sheffield?

It depends on the size of your home, how much heat it loses, and whether radiators or the hot water cylinder need changing. We price every job from a survey and a room-by-room heat loss calculation, then take the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant off the quote if you're eligible. Call 0114 463 0351 or send the quote form for a written price.

Can I get the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant?

Homeowners in England and Wales replacing a fossil fuel heating system, such as a gas, oil or LPG boiler, can usually claim £7,500 towards an air source heat pump. The grant has to go through an MCS certified installer. NorthStar is MCS certified, so we apply for it and take it straight off your quote. You don't fill in any forms yourself.

Will a heat pump work in an older Sheffield house?

Most homes can be heated by a heat pump, including older stone and brick houses, as long as the system is sized from a proper heat loss calculation. Sometimes a few radiators need to be bigger, or the loft insulation needs topping up. We tell you honestly at the survey, and if a heat pump isn't right for your home we'll say so.

Are air source heat pumps noisy?

Modern units such as the Vaillant aroTHERM plus are quiet, usually closer to a fridge than a boiler fan. We position the outdoor unit with your neighbours in mind and check it against the MCS noise requirements before fitting.
