“We was a bit unsure about getting a heat pump at first cos heard mixed things but NorthStar actually explained it all decent and didnt just try sell us one straight away. They checked house properly first and went through what would work best for us. Install took a bit of organising but lads kept us updated and got on with it. Been using it a few weeks now and house stays warm no problem and its quieter than I expected aswell.”Hollie Grogan Google review
Air source heat pump installation in Sheffield
A heat pump is only as good as its design. We size every system from a room-by-room heat loss calculation, fit it neatly, and set it up to run efficiently from day one.

What's included in a NorthStar install
Every install is designed for your home, but most include:
- The outdoor heat pump unit, sited on a solid base or wall brackets, on anti-vibration feet, away from bedroom windows where possible
- A heat pump-ready hot water cylinder, plus a buffer tank where the design needs one
- Radiator upgrades in any rooms the heat loss calculation shows need more output
- New pipework where needed, fully insulated inside and out
- Controls and weather compensation, set up so the heat pump runs low and steady
- Electrical connection with an outdoor isolator
- Commissioning, MCS certificate and manufacturer warranty registration
- The Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, applied for by us and taken off your price
Why the heat loss calculation matters
Most of the stories people hear about cold houses and big bills come from heat pumps that were sized by guesswork. An oversized unit cycles on and off and wastes power. An undersized one can't keep up in January.
We measure every room, note the walls, floors, windows and insulation, and calculate how much heat each room loses on a cold Sheffield day. That number decides the size of the heat pump and which radiators, if any, need changing. You'll see it in your quote.
Heat pump brands we fit
We fit and service Vaillant (including the aroTHERM plus), Samsung, Grant and Mitsubishi heat pumps. We'll recommend the one that suits your home and budget rather than whatever's on offer that month.
What to expect on install days
Most installs take two to five days on site. The outdoor unit and pipework usually go in first, then the cylinder and any radiator swaps, then the changeover from your old boiler. You'll have hot water for most of the job, and we'll let you know each day what's happening next.
Once it's running, we set up the controls with you, explain how to get the cheapest running from it, and register the install with MCS so your warranty and grant are in place.

What customers say
5-star reviews from our Google Business Profile.
“Had no idea what size heat pump we needed or whether the house would even suit one, so was half expecting a load of confusing sales talk. Didn’t get any of that. Everything was explained simply, we knew what we were paying for and the install went smoother than expected. House is heating up nicely and it’s been easy enough to get used to. Very happy we went ahead with it.”Mateusz Google review
Installation questions
How much does an air source heat pump cost in Sheffield?
It depends on the size of your home, how much heat it loses, and whether radiators or the hot water cylinder need changing. We price every job from a survey and a room-by-room heat loss calculation, then take the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant off the quote if you're eligible. Call 0114 463 0351 or send the quote form for a written price.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
Most installs take two to five days on site, depending on whether a new cylinder, radiators or pipework are needed. You'll have hot water for most of the job and we keep you updated each day.
Will I need new radiators?
Not always. Heat pumps run at lower water temperatures than a boiler, so some rooms may need a larger radiator to stay warm. The heat loss calculation shows exactly which rooms, if any, need a change, and it's all in your quote before we start.
Does a heat pump do hot water as well?
Yes. The heat pump heats a hot water cylinder as well as your radiators or underfloor heating. If you have a combi boiler now, you'll need space for a cylinder, usually in an airing cupboard, loft or utility room. We'll find the best spot at the survey.
Are air source heat pumps noisy?
Modern units such as the Vaillant aroTHERM plus are quiet, usually closer to a fridge than a boiler fan. We position the outdoor unit with your neighbours in mind and check it against the MCS noise requirements before fitting.
Do I need planning permission for an air source heat pump?
Most installs on houses in England are permitted development, so planning permission isn't needed. Listed buildings, flats and some conservation areas can be different. We check this as part of the survey.
